As one of the key funders for the pilot series last year and also involved in the current Nelson Women's Activator Series, the Nelson branch of the Heart Foundation is asking for your help. Please see below:
It is common knowledge that smoking is harmful to us all –smokers and non-smokers.
Research tells us that very few adults become smokers hence the drive by tobacco companies to ‘recruit’ young people into smoking. (They call them the ‘replacement smokers’)
Research also tells us that many people are prompted into buying tobacco products by the point of sale displays.
To assist young people to remain smokefree and support smokers attempting to quit it is important that tobacco products are removed from displays. Can you please support us in our attempt to ban tobacco displays by writing to your local MP and requesting their support on this matter.
Averil has sample letters that can be used or alternatively you can download one from www.protectourchildren.org.nz
